MARTA, SOCCER IN THE STREETS CELEBRATE EXPANSION OF STATION SOCCER TO EAST LAKE STATION   

ATLANTA - The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), Soccer in the Streets, The City of Atlanta, Atlanta United Community Fund, Georgia Power, Amazon, and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta invite you to the grand opening celebration of StationSoccer at East Lake rail station. Join us for a fun afternoon of soccer and community spirit!   

“We are excited to expand StationSoccer to East Lake rail station on the East/West Line in DeKalb County and continue building on this incredible program that supports youth education and development,” said MARTA General Manager and CEO Collie Greenwood. The East Lake pitch will be a focal point for the community, providing students from the Global Village Project, Villages of East Lake, and Decatur Housing Authority a safe, supportive place to gather, hone their soccer skills, and make friends.”

The event this Friday, Oct. 27 will feature food trucks, music, games, and a youth soccer tournament. A brief program will include remarks from special guest Sen. Jon Ossoff, MARTA GM/CEO Collie Greenwood, and leadership from the City of Atlanta and Atlanta United, as well as supporters who make the expansion of StationSoccer possible.

StationSoccer was launched at Five Points Station in 2016, resulting in the first soccer field in the world built inside a transit station. The successful program has since expanded to West End (2018), East Point (2019), Lindbergh (2020), Kensington (2022) and now East Lake Station (2023).
