MARTA SEEKS PUBLIC COMMENT FOR ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW OF FIVE POINTS STATION TRANSFORMATION PROJECT

ATLANTA – The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) is seeking public comment as part of the federal environmental review process for the Five Points Station Transformation Project. Five Points Station is the largest and busiest rail station in the MARTA system, and the connecting point for all four rail lines, the North/South (Red and Gold) and East/West Lines (Green and Blue), and nine bus routes.

MARTA and its partners at the City of Atlanta are pursuing a transformation of the concourse and plaza levels of Five Points Station to create a compelling civic space for MARTA customers and the surrounding Downtown community. The project will deconstruct the existing concrete canopy to be replaced with a new canopy that allows ample light and ventilation, and incorporate community activities, public art, agriculture, gathering places, and other customer amenities.

The $206 million project is funded through the More MARTA Atlanta half-penny sales tax, with $13.8 million from the state of Georgia Transit Trust Fund and a $25 million Federal RAISE Grant. As the project is a recipient of federal money, it is subject to review under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).

MARTA invites customers, residents, business owners, and other stakeholders to take part in the NEPA review process by reading and commenting on the Environmental Assessment (EA) document here. You may also review the document in person at the following locations until Jan. 5, 2024.
