MARTA CELEBRATES GROUNDBREAKING OF KENSINGTON STATION TRANSIT-ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT

ATLANTA - The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), along with the Housing Authority of DeKalb County (HADC) invite you to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Kensington Station transit-oriented development (TOD). This TOD initiative in unincorporated DeKalb will feature 100 percent affordable housing and the new headquarters for the HADC. 

“This milestone reflects MARTA’s dedication to creating affordable housing options that enhance connectivity and accessibility for residents. By investing in communities around our bus and rail services, MARTA aims to foster urban development, strengthen local economies, and provide equitable access to reliable transportation,” said MARTA General Manager and CEO Collie Greenwood. “We are grateful to the Housing Authority of DeKalb County for their invaluable partnership.” 

MARTA, HADC, and DeKalb County will host a groundbreaking celebration on Wednesday, Nov. 29 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at 3413 Kensington Road in Decatur. MARTA will provide shuttle services from Kensington rail station to the event. MARTA GM/CEO Collie Greenwood will be joined by DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond, and HADC CEO Pete Walker.

WHAT:  Kensington TOD Groundbreaking

WHEN:  Wednesday, Nov. 29  
             1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

GETTING THERE:  Shuttle service will be provided from Kensington Station to the event site from 12:30 p.m.- 1 p.m.

ATTIRE: The area is under construction, so proper shoes and attire are recommended.

The Kensington TOD includes 100 percent affordable senior and workforce housing, a new headquarters for the HADC, and other community amenities. MARTA, DeKalb County, and Soccer in the Streets celebrated the opening of a soccer pitch and community garden at Kensington Station last July, and a MARTA Market offering fresh produce for sale is open at the rail station every Thursday from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. MARTA and DeKalb County completed the Kensington Station Master Plan for TOD for the 35- acres surrounding the station this past May.
