MARTA BOARD OF DIRECTORS ELECTS NEW
LEADERSHIP
ATLANTA – The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) board of
directors elected new leadership at its December 2024 board meeting. City of
Atlanta representative Jennifer Ide will serve as chair, and Al Pond, a Fulton
County representative, will serve as vice-chair.
“I’m thrilled to serve as the new board chair in
the coming year,” said Ide. “MARTA and the City of Atlanta have several
important projects in the works, and I welcome the opportunity to strengthen
that partnership, as well as provide guidance and counsel to my fellow board
members, and the entire MARTA team.”
“It has been an honor to serve as the first MARTA board chair from
Clayton County,” said Katie Powers, 2024 Board Chair. “I promised last December
to be an active listener, learner, and doer, and I’m proud of all we
accomplished this year, including being named Outstanding Public Transportation
System by APTA. I look forward to continuing to represent Clayton on the board
and serve as Immediate Past Chair.”
“On behalf of everyone at MARTA, I would like to congratulate Jennifer
on being named as our new board chair,” said MARTA General Manager and CEO
Collie Greenwood. “I’d also like to thank Katie for her work as we advanced
multiple capital projects, procured services to upgrade our digital platforms and
fare collection system, and received outstanding credit ratings underscoring
our strong financial stewardship.”
The 2025 MARTA Board Officers are
as follows:
- Jennifer Ide, Chair
- Al Pond, Vice-Chair
- Valencia Williamson, Secretary
- Jim Durrett, Treasurer
- Katie Powers, Immediate Past Chair
The MARTA board of
directors is comprised of 13 voting members representing Clayton, DeKalb, and
Fulton counties and the City of Atlanta, and an appointee as the Governor, as
well as two ex-officio members from the Georgia Department of Transportation
and the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority. The policy-setting board
meets monthly to address challenges and opportunities facing the Authority,
while exploring ways to innovate and expand the system.
