MARTA’S
“TRANSIT SUPERHEROES” SECURE MILLIONS IN FEDERAL BUDGET TO IMPROVE TRANSIT
ACCESS AND EQUITY
ATLANTA – Members of Georgia’s Federal
Delegation have earmarked millions of dollars for Community Project Funding in
the fiscal year 2023 federal budget, improving access to transit and advancing
MARTA expansion and enhancement projects.
Rep. Hank Johnson secured $2 million
for Georgia’s 4th Congressional
District; $1 million for the Stonecrest Transit Hub Project, also supported by
Sen. Jon Ossoff, and $1 million to construct pedestrian and Americans With Disabilities Act
(ADA) improvements at MARTA facilities through the Safe Routes to Transit
Program.
Rep. David Scott also secured $1 million
for the Safe Routes to Transit Program in Georgia’s 13th Congressional
District. Additionally, Rep. Scott and Sen. Rafael Warnock earmarked $1 million
to help enhance the rider experience at the Clayton County Justice Center
Transit Hub. Upgraded amenities and easier bus-to-bus transfers are among the
improvements underway.
Rep. Nikema Williams secured $1 million for
the Safe Routes to Transit Program in Georgia’s 5th Congressional
District to help improve and expand equitable access to transit.
“Senators Ossoff and Warnock, along with
Congresswoman Williams and Congressmen Johnson and Scott are part of what we
proudly call our Transit Force. To MARTA, they are transit superheroes; key
allies who help us provide safe, equitable, reliable transit in metro Atlanta,”
said MARTA General Manager and CEO Collie Greenwood. “We are grateful for their
continued support and for always fighting for transit at the federal level.”
In last year’s budget, “Transit Force
superheroes,” Congresswoman Lucy McBath and Senators Jon Ossoff and Reverend
Raphael Warnock, have additionally secured millions of federal dollars for
MARTA projects.
