MARTA ADVANCES BUS RAPID TRANSIT FOR CONSIDERATION ALONG
CLIFTON TRANSIT CORRIDOR
ATLANTA – As part of ongoing project development for high-capacity transit along the Clifton Transit Corridor, MARTA is now advancing four possible routes for bus rapid transit (BRT). After years of planning and study, this project is advancing due in part to promising discussions with CSX railroad and the
potential for significant federal funding.
Following a national trend, MARTA is embracing the benefits of BRT - faster delivery, more cost-efficient use of resources - along with providing a flexible and reliable, premium transit service that is like rail.
MARTA’s Clifton Transit Corridor Project Team held five stakeholder workshops between March 15 and March 23 that were part of the first step in the process to identify and study transit route alignments and transit vehicle types (Alternatives Analysis). At these workshops, ten BRT and rail alternatives
were presented by the Project Team to key project stakeholders for feedback: City of Atlanta, Emory University, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), City of Decatur, and DeKalb County.
An extensive series of public engagement meetings - both virtual and in-person - will be held in June and July to present possible alignments and receive feedback.
