STATE OF MARTA TO HIGHLIGHT YEAR’S ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Event Sets Tone for Authority’s 2018 Goals


ATLANTA – The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) will host the annual State of MARTA breakfast on Friday, Jan. 5 from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the W Hotel Midtown in the Great Room.
 
The event, co-hosted by the Council for Quality Growth, provides a financial and service report card for 2017 and sets goals for the new year. Emceed by Atlanta journalist and former 11 Alive news anchor Brenda Wood, the breakfast also features a video of the year’s highlights.
 
MARTA Board of Directors Chairman Robert L. Ashe will open the event with remarks to an audience comprised of MARTA stakeholders, local politicians and business leaders, and supporters of public transportation
 
MARTA Interim GM/CEO Elizabeth O’Neill will present the state of MARTA address, with an emphasis on this year’s theme: Build. Connect. Innovate.
 
“From building transit-oriented developments (TODs), to connecting the city after the I-85 bridge collapse, to offering innovative ways to make the daily commute easier and more enjoyable, 2017 has been a year filled with many successes,” said Ms. O’Neill.
 
The keynote address will be given by Phillip A. Washington, CEO of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (METRO) and past Chair of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). Hala Moddelmog, President and CEO of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce will offer closing sentiments about the coming year.
 
Registration and a continental breakfast begin at 7 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, with welcome remarks beginning at 7:30 a.m. A shuttle will be provided from Arts Center Station to the W Hotel Midtown for those taking MARTA to the event.
